New Book
So Sawtelle wasn't the hit I was hoping for. While I love the novel for it's beautiful imagery and complicated relationships it is VERY long. So in the spirit of Fall I've chosen Neil Gaiman's novel "The Graveyard Book" for our next read. Please feel free to comment and follow along as I begin this new book. I'd love your input and thoughts. It was a novel recommended by students and Barnes and Noble. I love the illustrations already and I'm only in chapter 1. Please join in I'll be blogging soon.

I just placed an online order for "The Graveyard Book," and I'm hoping to receive my copy this week.
The brief description I read has me intrigued. The graveyard, as the center of the story, was a great choice considering the types of characters residing there. Sounds like a great story!

I read the book this morning - my own personal way of playing hooky from my real homework and lesson prep :-). Don't want to give too much away - but I will say that even though this is not exactly my kind of a book, the language is gorgeous, and the writing style is beautiful and compelling - I wanted to see what would happen to the characters. The resolution felt a bit rushed to me, though. (As an aside - I have a personal beef with something in chapter 3, specifically, page 84... Will talk about it a bit more after everyone is finished.)
I'm into chapter 5 and I'm divided. I think this book would be really challenging for 6th grade. The vocabulary is advanced and sometimes I find myself needing to reread what's happening. I'm listening to it during my commute which I'm sure affects my response. I must say the English accents are just divine.
I can see why kids are intrigued. I wish I was.
